Gallery ART UNLIMITED
Special Event / Time Extension
Opened in 2006, gallery ART UNLIMITED holds exhibitions of contemporary art with a focus on Japanese artists. During Roppongi Art Night, the gallery hosts Tamaki Shindo’s solo exhibition, “The Island with a Hermit.” Traveling extensively, his unique method of making artworks involves taking photographs and cutting up the prints, and then making collages to recreate the photographs. Inspired by the experience of his encounter with an elderly man on Kitagi Island, which is part of the Kasaoka Islands in Okayama Prefecture, Shindo has created work themed around a journey in search of a man who is considered to be a hermit on the island. The resulting installation consisting of collages and the artist’s first attempt at straight photography is presented in this exhibition. There will be a talk by the artist on Saturday September 30th at 7:30 p.m. Please visit the gallery’s website for further information. http://www.artunlimited.co.jp/
