The massive mobile concert hall “LUCERNE FESTIVAL ARK NOVA” will appear in the Grass Square at Tokyo Midtown. LUCERNE FESTIVAL ARK NOVA, standing at 18 meters high, 30 meters wide, and 36 meters deep, was created by the long-standing Swiss music festival, Lucerne Festival, along with the Japanese concert agent KAJIMOTO, in order to help support recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake. The concert hall, which has a capacity of 494 people, was designed by English sculptor Anish Kapoor and world renowned architect Arata Isozaki. On the day of Roppongi Art Night 2017, the interior of LUCERNE FESTIVAL ARK NOVA, which will be exhibited for the first-time in Tokyo, will be opened to the public, and special talks and concerts will be held.

ARTISTS

Anish Kapoor

Born in India in 1954, Anish Kapoor is a contemporary sculptor currently based in London. Using a wide range of materials and methods, he creates visually powerful artworks. Kapoor represented Britain at the Venice Biennale in 1990 and received the Premio Duemila Prize.
He also received the Turner Prize in 1991. In Japan, Kapoor’s work is part of such museum collections as the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa.

Arata Isozaki

Architect. Born in Oita Prefecture in 1931, Arata Isozaki completed both undergraduate and postgraduate studies in architecture at the University of Tokyo. He established Arata Isozaki Atelier when he was 32 years old. Known as a leading figure in postmodern architecture, he has designed a number of architectural structures both in Japan and abroad, including Oita Prefectural Library, Tsukuba Center Building, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. Currently based overseas, Isozaki undertakes experimental architecture projects. He has received numerous awards including prizes from the Architectural Institute of Japan and the Venice Biennale’s Golden Lion for Best National Participant.
