Artist Koki Otsuka uses familiar materials such as traffic cones and ropes to create pieces that bring out the natural energy that lies within substances. At Roppongi Art Night, he will host a “Mirai no Matsuri” themed workshop where participants come together to create an artwork “Twistripe” using red and white rope, and yellow and black rope.

ARTISTS

Koki Otsuka

Born in 1985 in Saga Prefecture. Artist. Koki Otsuka completed postgraduate studies in oil painting and printmaking at Aichi University of the Arts in 2017.

Exploring the theme of going beyond the abstraction encompassed in organic forms, Otsuka creates work by applying a simple rule to material and continuously making adaptations. His recent exhibitions include “Minokamo Annual: Waiwai Art Forest 2016” (Minokamo City Museum, Gifu) in 2016, “National Institute for Basic Biology Open Campus Festival Exhibition” (National Institute for Basic Biology, Aichi) in 2016, “Aichi University of the Arts Graduation and Completion Exhibition” (Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art) in 2017, and “Street Museum” (Tokyo Midtown) in 2017. He received runner-up prize at the Tokyo Midtown Award 2016 Art Competition.
