On October 13, 2020, a new type of “musical performance” for the COVID-19 era created “twin” performances for the real and digital worlds. The appreciation of music within a concert hall is centered on physicality and festivity. In these current circumstances where large gatherings must be avoided, we’ve approached a new style of music concerts. The Un-synchronized Orchestra presents two completely different concerts for the real and online formats. Rather than trying to adapt the concert hall experience to the online experience, it has created an entirely new way of appreciating music that can only be experienced online.

Yoichi Ochiai × Japan Philharmonic Orchestra Project
The Yoichi Ochiai × Japan Philharmonic Orchestra Project is based in the theme of “using technology to reconstruct the orchestra,” and they have held three musical recitals since 2018. The project seeks to expand the appeal and merit of the orchestra though activities such as the Sound-Free Concert, in which the hearing impaired can feel and enjoy music. In the search for ways for orchestras to exist in the midst of the 2020 COVID crisis, this sudden concert initiative investigates a newfound attraction of online appreciation.
