“Dewa Ruci” is a story set within the Indian epic of the Mahabharata, in which Bima, one of the Pandawa brothers, sets out on a quest to find the sacred water. After fiercely battling serpents in the ocean, he discovers the deity Dewa Ruci, an incarnation of his inner self. The silhouetted figures appearing in this digital video pay homage to the traditional staging of the story, while merging together with an ambient noise sound score to create a new style of Indonesian shadow puppetry.
