RAN Picks

RAN Picks is a program in which Roppongi Art Night selects several notable artists of interest and exhibits their works.



Atelier Sisu

Atelier Sisu is an award winning Sydney based art practice lead by Peruvian sculptor, Renzo B. Larriviere and Australian artist, Zara Pasfield. The pair work to create experimental environments, installations and unique sculptural pieces. Their direction of work site between the field of art and architecture (art-chitcture) with a particular focus on the realm of public art.

Jennifer Wen Ma

Born 1973 in Beijing, and currently based there and New York, she received her Master of Fine Art degree in 1999 from Pratt Institute, New York. Ma’s practice bridges various media such as installation, drawing, and design. She has presented her works internationally at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (2015), and Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing (2012) and Singapore Biennale (2006) among others.

Kyota Takahashi

Kyota Takahashi was born in Kyoto in 1970, where he continues to reside. He graduated from Kyoto City University of Arts, Graduate School of Fine Arts, majoring in sculpture. He has been involved in a wide range of activities within Japan and abroad, from installations in public spaces to performances using light and video. He has played an instrumental role in large-scale projects combining illumination and architecture, such as the 100th anniversary lighting of Tokyo Station and the Towada Art Center, as well as participatory art projects such as Shining Smile Fruits and Flower Fields of Light that were created together with many people.

Pu Chen

Pu Chen was born in Taiwan, where he continues to reside. Connecting the perspectives of biomorphology and bioarchaeology, he creates a diverse body of work using digital media while his creative process starts from painting. He integrates the virtual and real realms by evolving his ink and pen drawings into 2D and 3D animation, AR, NFT, installations, workshops, and more. His works have been exhibited at the Amsterdam Stedelijk Museum and many other locations around the world, such as Paris, Hamburg, Guangzhou, and Taipei.

Tsai & Yoshikawa

Taiwanese artist Hsiao-Chi Tsai and Japanese artist Kimiya Yoshikawa are a duo living and working in London. Tsai studied textiles and Yoshikawa studied sculpture at the Royal College of Art in England. With an eye on the dynamic energy and stunning presence of the natural world, they create site-specific, fantastical sculptures and installations that continue to captivate audiences throughout Asia and Europe, transforming indoor and outdoor spaces into otherworldly environments.

MeimageDance

New Paradise of Silent Island, 2022

Founded in 2010 by Ho Hsiao-Mei (b. 1963 in Taiwan), MeimageDance is recognized by their powerful visual presentation and usage of cultural style as seen in renaissance of its ashes (2019) and New Paradise of Silent Island (2017). Besides the public performances, they carry out a project to offer young talented Taiwanese dancers living abroad support for their work production back home in Taiwan.
