A contemporary circus performance themed to goldfish. When I came across records of goldfish cultivation in Roppongi in the late Edo period (1603-1868), I was a little surprised to find that there was an abundance of spring water in the area, and I could not help but imagine what people must have felt when they looked at the shiny and beautiful goldfish tail fins flickering in their bowls. In this time where we cannot take things for granted, we hope that when you see the tail fins of the goldfish leaping out of their bowls and drifting through the scenery of Roppongi, you will enjoy the rediscoveries you’ll find in your everyday environment and stream of time.

ARTISTS

Aki Yoshida

Yoshida entered the world of performance upon graduating from college. Through his studies in dance, theater, and other forms of physical expression, along with a coinciding exposure to aerial arts, he became fascinated with the world of the art circus and went abroad to train in its art forms. He is known not only for his aerial performance, but also for his expressive qualities and spatial direction, and in recent years he has presented contemporary circus works in Japan and abroad using his original equipment. He also organizes “RUTeN,” a project to create a contemporary circus by collaborating with artists of other genres.
