Detail
TOTO GALLERY・MA is holding a group exhibition, “Emerging Architecture, Own Ways,” featuring twenty teams of architects born after 1980 who were selected through an Open-call Design Proposal process for the expo facilities, including rest areas, for the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.
In proposing facilities such as resting areas, restrooms, and satellite studios for the Expo, the twenty teams posed questions about society and architecture, repeating trial and error based on their hypotheses. These efforts include new approaches to industrialized construction and distribution, connecting with history, updating recycled materials and existing technologies, and rethinking architecture as a place that welcomes diverse people, providing an overview of the current state and challenges of architecture. At the same time, they listened to various opinions, both positive and negative, from all sides and stayed committed to making their vision a reality. This attitude toward architecture, which goes beyond the scope of the Expo, can be a driving force in innovating architecture in an era marked by increasingly complex social issues and uncertainty about the future.
