Detail
Based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Brie Ruais creates sculptures that incorporate performative elements, focusing on the materiality of ceramics, the artist’s own physicality, and the nature of hands-on labor. Her signature series includes works shaped through full-body movements – spreading, tearing, and scraping a mass of clay equal to her own body weight. For this exhibition, she presents new works developed after an artist-in-residence program at the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park in Shiga Prefecture; these pieces reflect the results of her research into Japanese clay and ceramic history, integrated with her own artistic practice.
*On 10/31(Sat), the museum will be open until 6:00 a.m. the following morning.
