Detail
nca | nichido contemporary art is pleased to present Parking, the new solo show by artist Chihhung Liu.
Drawing inspiration from a variety of sources including literary fiction, poetry, and philosophy – Liu has developed a unique, expressive language where the scenery and events the artist experiences during his journeys intertwine with the randomness of everyday life. It is the artist’s attempt, through his exchanges with local communities and his extensive experience in field research, to reframe, on a different dimension, aspects that could hardly be put into words or express on the canvas- sounds, time, emotions, humidity – and give them visibility moving beyond the sole representation of the natural landscape or the observation of the world.
Inspired by Irit Rogoff’s concept of “gliding through border lines”, as hinted by its title Parking, the exhibition utilizes the transitional and temporary nature of “parking”, both as an action and a physical entity. It transforms these elements into a non-fixed, fluid field, reconstructing perception amidst a continuous interplay of stasis and movement.
Liu presents new paintings and installation works made especially for the exhibition.
