Detail
For over two decades, Naoto Iguchi has pursued a unique form of artistic expression using photocopiers. He captures images of his face and everyday objects, incorporating the distortions and elements of chance that arise from his physical movements into his work. Stickers and various materials are layered across the composition, creating a vibrant, dynamic world. This interplay of physical movement and randomness results in imagery brimming with energy.

Part of Iguchi’s daily routine is to use the photocopiers at local convenience stores and other available facilities to capture images of his face together with objects that catch his fancy at that moment. He creates unique distortions on the screen by pressing his face against the glass, operating the controls himself, and moving his body in sync with the scanner’s light. The often featured stickers in his work are promotional campaign labels peeled off aluminum cans during his work at a given facility, and he has even been the lucky winner numerous times with them. He has visited the same neighborhood convenience stores every day for over twenty years, and the staff happily wipe down the glass surface once he finishes.
