Roppongi — the night a hundred shadows begin to walk.

We call the things a city forgets “machiboke”: the ones left waiting. Places that have served their purpose, tools no longer used, time gone by. They simply remain, quietly saying, “I am still here.” Wearing earphones, audiences walk through Roppongi on Halloween night. They stop, turn around, look for someone. Is what they hear the sound of this place now, or of a hundred years ago? As that line blurs, the layers sleeping beneath the familiar streets begin to rise. And before you know it, you too may have joined the night parade. Conceived and with the audio experience designed by ExMetaClub, with script and performance contributions by daisydoze, this experimental project is presented as a work in progress.

ExMetaClub × daisydoze

ExMetaClub is a creative unit developing experimental, walk-through XR artworks on metacognition and the boundaries between realities. daisydoze is a team creating Japan’s own form of site-specific immersive theatre; through thorough research into the history and memories of each site, it weaves the elements unique to that place into its works. In this work-in-progress piece, daisydoze collaborates on scriptwriting and performance, building upon the audio experience designed by ExMetaClub. In this collaboration, the two invite audiences to walk the streets of Roppongi and sense the presences and layers of time hidden within the city.
