Encounter Hanako the giant Kokeshi doll from Tohoku region!
A massive 13-meter kokeshi doll appears in Tokyo Midtown Galleria. Wearing traditional patterns from the various parts of Tohoku, the kokeshi is called Hanako. Hanako represents a message of encouragement from Roppongi to the whole of Japan.
A kokeshi is a wooden doll in the form of a girl. It has been handed down as a tradition in all parts of Tohoku. There are many theories as to its origin, but it is likely that it was made as a teething aid or toy for infants. The kokeshi embodies Japan's aesthetics, affection, and goodwill. Hanako is the second in the Ittekimasu Nippon series that aims for a revaluation and reconstruction of the value of Japanese culture with the aim of communicating it around the world. It was made by Yotta Groove, which consists of Kizaki Kimitaka, Kanetani Koji, and Yamawaki Hiromichi. The kokeshi is 13 meters tall, and wears a combination of new patterns with the traditional kokeshi patterns of each area of Tohoku. It talks and sings. Hanako is a powerful supporter for Japan.
